LIVING OUR VALUES
Why Sigma Chi in 2022?

For me, John Cougar said it best, "I lived in a small town" that evolved to a life broadening experience at MSU! I certainly didn't aspire to be Consul, but I had thrived as an undergrad and wanted to do more.
At that time, I don't think our chapter knew exactly what it wanted to be. However, we figured out that by working with local and older alumni, we'd hear the best stories and enjoy a camaraderie that many students won't get from college |
We regrouped to include alums at pre-game events and we paid more attention to their feedback at chapter meetings. The chapter house needed help in 1982. We also need help with rushing more effectively and providing pledgeships that were purposeful.
I learned quickly that a brotherhood had to perform like a business and get involved at the community. Our giving back was an expectation of university officials and Sigma Chi headquarters. Ultimately, in 1982 with a full house of 56 brothers and another 35 around campus, we were in better financial shape. Our emphasis in full participation led to a totally refreshed interior, kitchen, and chapter. |
The best part was that a group of well rounded guys were participating from around the country. Where else could you enjoy the ideals of Sigma Chi and a bond of brotherhood that would be so fulfilling in those four years and still to this day?
Recently, I witnessed about 40 brothers on a Zoom call, thinking of any next medical steps and praying for Jim Kutil's (Pro-Consul 1980-81) very difficult recovery. I was moved back into college with guys that truly give a shit, just as I remembered. Let's embrace the Gamma Psi chapter once again. Of course, it will take significant effort to find the undergrads and then the leaders who will fully embrace the values of Sigma Chi that extends to our founders of 1855 in the Miami Triad. It's time. |
